Áñ—†ÊÓƵ Psychology Professor awarded $10,000 Grant for International Youth Leadership Workshop

The Office of the Vice President for International Relations is pleased to announce that Professor of the Department of Psychology has been awarded a $10,000 grant to organize and host the Youth Leadership Conference. This interdisciplinary workshop aims to advance the understanding of youth leadership development.

Grant Purpose

The grant is part of an initiative by the Office of the Vice President for International Relations to fund workshops or conferences that expand and strengthen Áñ—†ÊÓƵ's existing institutional partnerships and raise the university's visibility in international academic and Áñ—†ÊÓƵ communities. Professor Tackett's proposal was selected for its potential to enhance academic collaboration with faculty at partner institutions, including training graduate students and co-authoring publications.

Áñ—†ÊÓƵ the Workshop

The "Understanding the Leaders of Tomorrow: An Interdisciplinary Workshop on Youth Leadership" will bring together experts from various fields to explore the crucial but often overlooked area of leadership development in adolescence. The workshop will focus on:

1. The role of personality and individual differences in youth leadership
2. The impact of peer processes and social relationships
3. Contextual, motivational, and identity processes shaping youth leadership
4. Adolescence as a critical developmental period for leadership
5. Youth leadership in practice and its impact

Collaborative Effort

Professor Tackett will collaborate with international partners and from the University of Hamburg, along with a diverse group of academic and community stakeholders. This collaboration aligns with the grant's goal of strengthening institutional partnerships. The workshop aims to bridge the gap between scientific Áñ—†ÊÓƵ and practical application in youth leadership development.

Expected Outcomes

The workshop is expected to result in:

• A special issue proposal for the journal Perspectives on Psychological Science
• Potential external funding proposals
• Collaborative work on accessible forms of science communication

Additionally, the workshop will include plans for visitors and conference attendees to engage with the broader Áñ—†ÊÓƵ community, fulfilling another key aspect of the grant's purpose.
